My Valentine’s Day Edit

With Valentine’s Day right around the corner, it’s time to start prepping the ultimate date night (or day) outfit.

There’s no one right way to do Valentine’s Day. However, the one thing I do know is that you can never have enough red or pink. I decided not to shop for this holiday. I wanted to dress up some pieces that I have in my closet.

So, whether you’re staying in for a cozy night with your boo or catching a movie with your girlfriends, I hope these inspiration shots guarantee you a fashionable holiday.

1. Fancy Romantic

I am always up for a dressy romantic sit down dinner… or lunch. If you’re like me and love to get dressed up then this look is for you! Personally, I wanted a dress I could wear for Valentine’s Day and which could also easily transition into spring. That’s why I chose this floral dress paired with some red booties. I just adore the relaxed feminine silhouette and the filly sleeves.

The simplest ways to transform this Valentine’s Day look from day to night! ~ Add red pumps and a cute bag. I know you ladies have a floral dress somewhere in your closet just add red pumps, a cute bag some red lipstick and you’re good to go.

2. Girls Night Out

Valentine’s Day is not all about romantic relationships. Although your significant other is important so are the lovely ladies in your life. So, throw on something sassy like this pink and white slip dress, grab your crew of loving and lovable gal pals and hit the town for some drinks and dancing.

3. Netflix & Chill

No need to get sloppy in your sweats if you’re chilling at home. I love this oversized fuzzy sweater paired with leggings or jeans. The comfort level of this sweater suits any homebody activity. So turn on Netflix, order in the Thai food, and hunker down in utter coziness.

Happy Eco-friendly New Year

Hello Lovelies,

This week was back to the hustle and grind for most of us. Hope  it was a great start to your new year.  I am not good at New Year resolutions so I never make them. However, I have been thinking of how I can make this year better. If 2018 has taught me anything, it’s that we need to take better care of our environment and be mindful of our way of life. So, this year I am going to be more aware of my carbon footprint. I am going to take personal responsibility for my impact on the planet. No more finger pointing, no more blame game, no more waiting for the world to change or waiting on others to take action for a sustainable future.

It starts with me. By making some small changes like:

  1. Carrying my own shopping bags and water bottle
  2. Composting my food scraps
  3. Upcycling and recycling more
  4. Cooking from scratch and buying local ingredients
  5. Walking more or taking public transportation

Doing something – even if it seems small and inconsequential – is better than doing nothing.

I am proud to share my first DIY upcycle project  I found on the Oui Yoplait website.

Have you thought about how you are going to make 2019 different? If you have any upcycle or DIY repurposing ideas, please share in the comments below. I would love to learn a new craft. Thank you

Ways to keep your Skin Clean, Merry & Bright this Holiday Season

Hello Lovelies,

I enjoyed reading and looking at everyone’s Black Friday  purchases and experiences on Instagram.  Now that most of us have found that perfect dress, shoes, bag and mascara to rock for the upcoming holiday festivities, I am here to kindly remind you to not forget about your skin. What’s beneath your makeup matters, too!

The weather and the holiday season has not always been kind to my skin. But this season I am changing that, thanks to the Hydro Boost Body line.  I am partnering up with Neutrogena to give dry skin the cold shoulder.

I am loving the Hydro Boost Gel Cream, Whipped Body Balm and Hand Gel Cream.  At first I was unsure of the gel like feel because it reminded me of sticky hair gel. However, I was pleasantly surprised when I applied it to my skin. The lightweight body gel absorbed quickly into my skin leaving my skin soft, smooth and silky with no sticky residue.  These products are formulated with hyaluronic acid, so it boosts and locks in hydration. The added bonus for me is that fresh, clean after shower smell.  My husband noticed the difference in my skin after a week and now he’s hooked on the Hydro Boost Body line too

Before I sign off here are my top 3 skin care tips to help you survive the holidays

Increase your glow before the party.

Start your morning off on a good foot by cleansing and moisturizing your skin.

Savor your glass of red wine.

But don’t forget to stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water.

Do damage control after the party.

Have fun and enjoy yourself, but when you get home, take off your makeup and give your skin a little extra pampering.

Meet the Flexitarian Diet!

Happy October 1st Lovelies! Did you know that today is World Vegetarian Day?   Approximately 10% of the world’s population is vegetarian. In fact, currently 70% of the world’s vegetarians are Indians and there are more vegetarians in India than in any other country in the world.

Growing up in a Hindu household my family was not vegetarian however we observed a fast once every week where we abstained from consuming any meat products for the day. During certain months of the year the fast would last an entire week or longer. Without even realizing it I guess my family along with other  Indian South African households observed Meatless Mondays for generations before it became a movement in 2003.

Animal agriculture is an environmental disaster. The livestock sector generates as much greenhouse gas emissions as all cars, trucks and automobiles combined. I recently read an article, which describes the aftermath from Hurricane Florence where 3.4 million chickens and 5,500 pigs drowned as a result of flooding in North Carolina. Animal waste spilled into the water system, which now poses possible contamination from E.coli, salmonella and insecticides.

Cutting down on the consumption of animal products is the absolute best way to reduce your carbon footprint. You don’t have to cut meat out completely or all at once to make a healthy change but reducing your intake and replacing it with some healthy veggies, fruits, and whole grains can have a wonderful impact on your health and the environment as a whole.

I am not 100% vegetarian or vegan, which makes me a Flexitarian. I do eat fish on occasion and treat myself to a grilled cheese sandwich every once in a while. There might be some compromise for example dinner at a friend’s house, or when traveling, but Andy and I do our very best to avoid animal products including milk, eggs and cheese. We both have made a conscious decision to make better lifestyle choices.

How do you feel about going meatless one day a week?

Wondering what to make for your next “Meatless Monday”?

Here are some of my favorite veggie burger brands:

  1.  Gardein
  2. Morning Star
  3. Field Roast
  4. Garden Burger

Happy Heritage Day

Our rich and varied cultural heritage has a profound power to help build our nation – Nelson Mandela.

Today, South Africa celebrates National Heritage Day. Heritage Day is an annual holiday that encourages South Africans to celebrate their roots. South Africa is a proud rainbow nation with 11 official languages and diverse cultures. This day reminds us to not only celebrate the diversity that exists in South Africa, but also individual heritage which is a very important part of our lives.

Although I now live in the States I still appreciate this day as it reminds me to think about who I am and where I come from.  It gives me a chance to archive stories of my roots and to reflect on the diverse cultural heritages that form part of my experiences. For me as a 4th generation Indian South African married to a 2nd generation American of Italian and English descent, heritage is dynamic and is constantly being added on. I am so fortunate to get to experience all the different cultural dynamics and learn from it all.

So, today I celebrate heritage day by embracing the spirit of Ubuntu, by remembering all the people who contributed to who I am today and I celebrate all those who continue to enrich my life with their love, wisdom, humility and compassion.

A nation’s culture resides in the hearts and in the soul of its people ~Mahatma Gandhi

Would love to read what  Heritage means to you, so please leave a comment. If you are from South Africa let me how you are celebrating this day? Have an awesome week Lovelies. ❤

Falling for Florals

The calendar says September but the leaves on the trees are still green and the temperature for the most part is still warm. I am embracing the last end of season moments before I go running arms wide open into sweater weather.

To keep the fashion momentum going as the days get shorter and the weather cooler Violet Skye Boutique is helping me transition into Autumn. They sent me this gorgeous ruffle sleeve keyhole floral dress with a loose fit a-line silhouette. I can’t get enough of the bright floral print against the navy background. Light weight, fun, flirty and flowy it’s  the perfect dress to wear in-between seasons. I’ve worn it out to dinner twice in one week and I’ll be wearing it often during the cooler months ahead with booties and leggings.

The unofficial end of summer is here – what are you wearing to transition into Fall?
