My Mane Man

An unexpected blessing of being a blogger is the chance to do collaborations with other creative and talented artists. One of these creative souls is Massachusetts born hairstylist Billy Disciullo who is dear to our hearts. Billy is not only a fantastic hairstylist but also a good friend. He has worked alongside and collaborated with my photographer husband Andrew on many projects.

When these two guys decided to pool their talents together to create this photo shoot for me, I was over the moon with excitement. I could not wait to see what Billy would create, and he did not let me down!

Inspired by the up coming Oscars, I felt like Raquel Welch on the red carpet.

This photo shoot was so much fun and full of laughs.

Now, ladies and gentlemen it is with great honor that I get the chance to introduce my Mane man to you! Billy Disciullo .

What is your favorite thing about your job? The beauty of being a hairstylist gives me the freedom to express my artistic & creative side. Every day is new and different. Each day brings different people and different challenges and ideas. I love using the art of hairdressing to tell a story and show off my passion and dedication.

Who inspires you? My mentor John Dellaria inspires me. I was fortunate to work with him for many years.

If you were not a hairstylist, what would you be? Definitely an architect

If you were stranded on an island with only three things, what would it be? My two dogs and my cellphone

If you could collaborate with anyone, who would it be? Kate Moss and Karl Lagerfeld

What is your ideal weekend? Relaxing at home with my dogs,  enjoying a good home cooked meal and watching my favorite movies.

What do you consider the big hair “mistake” women make? Big mistake WRAPPING YOUR HAIR IN A TOWEL!!! PLEASE don’t. The texture of bath towels cause friction and roughs up your hair cuticles, which causes frizzy damaged hair.  That goes right along with under hydrating hair because it makes it feel too soft.

What are your top 3 hair products you would recommend?

  1. Schwarzkopf moisture kick shampoo and spray on leave in moisturizing conditioner.
  2. Olaplex hair treatment. Olaplex is a strengthening product that allows you to rebuild the strength, structure and integrity of your hair. It is great for women who have processed or bleach perm hair.
  3. Lastly I would recommend Phyto Actif spray and volumizer. It is a heat activated weightless spray that builds volume when blow drying hair.

What was the best piece of advice you received? Well I received two very good pieces of advice from two different people. One was from someone who I admire said to me “Go with your gut” and I do believe in that. The second was from a good friend who said to me to always “Stay in your own lane”.

Which is your favorite iconic hairstyle? Sixties fashion hair for sure.

    Love everything about this post, from the title, the pictures and the interview. Well Done Girl !!! As they say “There really is no such thing as people with bad hair – Just people who have not found the right hairstylist”. Billy is awesome and so talented. I had no idea about the towel. I always wear my hair in a turban after a wash. Will STOP doing that from now on. As for YOU – gorgeous as always. Looking forward to your next post.
